OneSpotMD COVID19 Updates

Our urgent care is closely monitoring the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus. As the situation evolves, OneSpotMD will have frequent updates for patients regarding location operations, testing developments, and other important COVID-19 related information.

OneSpotMD is currently offering three forms of COVID-19 testing at our urgent care in Charlotte.

Rapid Test: Results in 15-30 minutes
PCR Test: Sendout lab, results in 2-5 days

Please read below FAQ for more information regarding these COVID-19 tests offered at OneSpotMD.

What do these COVID-19 tests detect?2020-12-08T11:42:25+00:00

Rapid Test and PCR Test: This test will detect if you are actively infected with the COVID-19 virus.  At OneSpotMD, we only offer these two types of tests at the moment.

Serum Antibody IgG (Blood Test): This test will detect if you have had prior exposure to or infection with COVID-19 and have built antibodies for the virus. For most viral illnesses, a positive antibody means prior exposure to a virus and possible immunity to future infection. As COVID-19 is a novel (new) infection, it is unclear if a positive antibody offers immunity. OneSpotMD recommends universal precautions (Hand washing, social distancing and masks when appropriate). This test does not tell us if you have active infection or not.

Do I need to make an appointment to receive a COVID-19 test?2020-11-29T05:50:53+00:00

Yes, due to limited testing supply, allocation nationwide and very high demand, we recommend you make an appointment to make sure you’ll get tested.

How are these tests administered?2020-11-29T05:51:48+00:00

Rapid Test: Administered via a nasal swab.

PCR Test: Administered via a nasal swab.

How long will it take to receive my results and how do I view them? 2020-11-29T05:52:51+00:00

Rapid Test: You should expect to receive your results within approximately 15 minutes. We ask that you wait in the parking lot, so we can bring results and any recommendations based on your results to you.

PCR Test: The average turnaround time for PCR (Nasal Swab) lab results is normally 2 to 4 days but can take longer depending on lab partner and other factors. PCR test requires complex lab equipment and experts to process the PCR test. We have partnered with Quest to process all PCR tests. Once you have tested from our clinic, you can either call Quest for results, download MyQuest app on your mobile device or call us for the results. MyQuest App is the easiest and most convenient way to get the results.

What is included in OneSpotMD’s COVID-19 medical evaluation and testing?2020-11-29T05:56:15+00:00

Every patient’s COVID-19 medical evaluation and testing appointment includes:

  1. A  Medical Evaluation in which a Medical Provider will obtain a history, vital signs and perform a physical exam.
  2. Testing which will be an anterior nasal swab or nasopharyngeal swab for active infection testing.
    •  Based on the exam, if necessary, we may obtain other diagnostic tests.  We may refer the patient to the Emergency Room for further treatment and possible hospital admission if we find the patient merits a higher level of care.
    • Antigen active infection test results are available within 15 minutes.
    • OneSpotMD also offers PCR active infection tests, OneSpotMD will send the test swab to our lab partner Quest. Following the Quest’s processing and communication of test results to OneSpotMD, we will communicate the results to the patient. The turnaround time from the test swab to communicating test results to the patient is typically 2-5 days.
Why do I need a medical evaluation with my COVID-19 test?2020-11-29T05:57:22+00:00

Although the majority of patients experience mild symptoms, some patients can become extremely sick and may not be aware that they have low oxygen levels, have pneumonia or even have a severe infection in the bloodstream(septic). To help protect your health, we conduct a Medical Evaluation with testing to:

  • Ensure that we identify sick people who may need immediate emergency treatment as patients sometimes may not be aware of the severity of illness.
  • The medical evaluation we perform evaluates the patient’s vital signs and are intended to look for very high fevers, hypoxia (low oxygen), rapid heart rate or rapid breathing, all of which may indicate that the patient is sick enough to warrant hospital care and treatment.
  • It is critically important to examine a patient’s  to ensure that they are not in distress and do not have clinical evidence of pneumonia or sepsis, either of which could indicate the patient needs hospital admission for early intervention to have a better outcome.
What precautions do I take based on my results of these tests?2020-11-29T06:07:51+00:00

Rapid Test

Negative

  • Asymptomatic: Continue to exercise universal precautions such as social distancing, quarantining, frequent hand washing, wearing of a mask or face cloth in public, and other CDC guideline recommendations.
  • Symptomatic: A confirmatory PCR test will be sent to an outside lab to ensure result accuracy. You should quarantine at home until your PCR result is available.

Positive

  • Asymptomatic: You are recommended to isolate for 10 days from the day of the test. You may end your isolation period after 10 days assuming you either remain symptom free or any symptoms you develop are significantly improved AND you have not had a fever for 24 hours (without using fever reducing medications like acetaminophen or ibuprofen).
  • Symptomatic: You are recommended to self-quarantine for 10 days from onset of symptoms. After 10 days, you may return to work provided your respiratory symptoms (ie cough, runny nose) are improving AND you are fever-free for 24 hours (without using fever reducing medications like acetaminophen or ibuprofen).

PCR Test

  • Negative: Continue to exercise universal precautions such as social distancing, quarantining, frequent hand washing, wearing of a mask or face cloth in public, and other CDC guideline recommendations.
  • Positive: You are recommended to self-quarantine for 10 days from onset of symptoms. After 10 days, you may return to work provided your respiratory symptoms (ie cough, runny nose) are improving AND you are fever-free for 24 hours (without using fever reducing medications like acetaminophen or ibuprofen).

Yes, we recommend that anyone in direct contact with a person who has COVID-19 get tested, particularly those who work with the public or are in contact with people considered high risk for the disease. You should wait at least 5 days after exposure before you take a test in order to have the most accurate test. You should quarantine during the period before the visit and test.

Check with your airline and/or destination country- to make sure they are not looking for a specific type of test, as there are various testing options (Antigen, PCR, Antibody). If they require the PCR test, it will be sent out to a lab, the result may take an average 5 days to return.
